"Growing up in Kentucky, I have come to appreciate the raw beauty and intensity of nature. Over the years, I have used my travels within the state and around the country to gather photos and drawings of scenes that inspire me. Even in my abstract pieces, I still feel that something of nature is represented there through the colors and textures that I use.
I think the magic is in the creation of the pieces, the feelings that lead to me craft whatever composition weighs on me at that time. Most importantly, I don’t wish to recreate the images realistically, but rather, to capture and evoke an emotional reaction in the viewer.
While I was pregnant with my first child, I was banned from my studio by my doctor. I desperately needed a creative outlet, and I soon discovered beading and jewelry-making. Two years later, I’ve found myself addicted to the colors, shapes and feel of the variety of beads I’ve found. The pieces here comprise a set definitive of my recent work: bold, colorful, textural, yet surprisingly simple. It’s in this way that I like to think of my jewelry as a three-dimensional extension of my paintings and drawings - I’ve just extended my canvas to the human form."
